OPEN TO ALL SMALL BUSINESSES –
PRINCE GEORGE’S BLACK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOST AN AFTEROON NETWORK RECEPTION
TO EDUCATE SMALL BUSINESSES ABOUT THE STIMULUS PLAN.
Oxon Hill, MD --- The Prince George’s Black Chamber of Commerce will host an afternoon business network reception on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Greenbelt Marriot in Greenbelt, MD for local and small minority businesses to meet with representatives from three area industries that have information on upcoming contracts in the Washington region.
Michelle Wright, Coordinator for the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs and John Huggins, President of the Maryland Advisory Board for Small and Minority Businesses will be discussing the Base Realignment and Closure (B.R.A.C.) initiative, and how Maryland companies can position themselves for the vast projects that will be available.
“Ms. Wright and Mr. Huggins are working to assemble robust teams of small and minority firms that can not only land subcontracts but replace industry giants as the prime contractors on several federal jobs, and the Prince George’s Black Chamber wants to ensure that our membership is fully aware and positioned for these opportunities,” says Mr. Hubert “Petey” Green, President of the Black Chamber.
Dan Mosser, Vice President for Workforce Development and Continuing Education at Prince George’s Community College will present
an overview of the school’s recent $5 million grant for its Local Minority Business Enterprise (LMBE) Accelerated Program. “We are extremely excited to have Mr. Mosser, explain the Community College’s new LMBE program,” says Mr. Maynard Smith, Secretary/Treasurer of the Black Chamber.
“This program is needed if we want to create more opportunity for our community in the development and infrastructure industry. The Community College will offer a skill set that is a must if minority businesses want to not only compete, but excel.”
Victor Weissberg of the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation will highlight what county transportation developments will be funded by the federal stimulus package and what businesses should look for on future transportation projects.
The Black Chamber’s afternoon network reception kicks-off the 8th Annual Awards Dinner and Gala, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception. The Keynote speaker for the evening activities is The Honorable Elijah Cummings, Congressman from Baltimore’s 7th Congressional District. Congressman Cummings was also the Maryland State Chairman for the Obama Presidential Campaign.
The Black Chamber encourages all of its members to attend this free
afternoon reception to find out more information on these upcoming opportunities.
Tickets are still available for the evening gala at $125.00 per person. Ticket purchases available on the website: www.pgblackchamber.org.
